Monmouthshire - EMRO and Late Night Levy rejected

12 Jul
2013

On the 9th July Monmouthshire’s Licensing Committee considered the imposition of a Late Night Levy and / or EMRO.  Both propositions were rejected following recommendations from the Authority’s Officers.

In reports submitted to the Committee by Licensing Officers neither the EMRO nor Levy were recommended.

The reports stated:

“The introduction of a levy would give rise to an additional financial burden upon businesses with no clear benefit for citizens or businesses of Monmouthshire.”

‘The authority has no evidence that there are any issues of alcohol-related crime and disorder, or anti-social behaviour related to specific areas of the County. Therefore, there would be no benefit from the introduction of EMROs currently.’

Monmouthshire becomes the latest Authority to decline these additional powers.

Law correct at the date of publication.
